Bees represent fertilization, and pollination is the example of fertilization; usually used in respect to the male ';duty';.
Birds = eggs/ embryo / development.
Most people will call it the birds and the bees, and some parents may use these examples in nature to explain a little about what's going on during copulation, etc. In most cases now, I think people only use it as a euphenism and don't actually discuss or use these examples, although they're excellent.What is the bee and the bird theory?
There is no specific theory: ';the birds and the bees'; is just a euphemistic way to refer to the facts of life, or sex/reproduction. As in, ';I had to tell my son about the birds and the bees.';
ND DVM is right, it's just a way of saying, ';having sex'; in a polite way that doesn't embarass anyone.
